Murder, Herman Düne and the Irish summer
The last week was one of those weeks… First of all, the weather really sucks big time at the moment. It was (is) grey and rainy the whole week. Horrible. Summer, pleaaase! It is depressing. I basically came back from sunny California 3 weeks ago always having in mind that the timing is perfect and that I could easily skip the “spring” before the “summer” starts. But well, I don’t know if I mentioned it but a fancy hailstorm was already waiting for me stepping out of the airport in Dublin… Bad omen… A taxi driver asked me this week coming back from a Friday night: “Noice weatha, eh?” I replied:”Brilliant”. His answer: “That’s Ireland: What you see is what you get”. He might be right but usually it is more like “What you see looks ok but it is actually shite”. Anyways…
The next good news reached me during the week: “Got a call - The Herman Düne concert is canceled”. Arse. I was so looking forward to this. Oh well it says that the concert is postponed… ok will will see. Shit happens.
The real shit one day later: A woman was murdered here in my apartment complex. I was walking to work in the morning and I realized a cop standing in front of one of the doors. Didn’t really think too much at this point but I got the news then in the office. Must have been really brutal. He stabbed her (Sara Neligan) to death. I mean, it happened inside one of the apartments but still… Disturbing…
The thing is pretty big here as it turned out that the victim is the daughter of a famous heart surgeon. It was a big story on the front cover of the tabloids. The police talked to everybody living there and of course to me as well. It turned out that I was at home alone when it happened - nice alibi. I didn’t realized anything suspicious though. He also asked me about the “beerfest in Germany” - is just said he should go to Berlin instead…
Now is the point where the whole strory covers things like Sara Neligan’s drug addiction or some previous conflicts of the potential killer. I actually bought a tabloid for the first time here in Ireland… Well the guy the police arrested, who was also living in my complex, now admitted the crime. The police is still around though…
